To connect one computer:

Note: Any Macintosh capable of running OS X (G3 and up) has built-in ethernet, so purchasing a NIC (network interface card) is not necessary.

  1. Plug one end of a CAT 5 cable into the ethernet port on the back of your Macintosh (the port which looks like a phone jack, but slightly larger), and the other end of the cable into the LAN interface on the broadband connection device (DSL modem, etc).
  2. Click the Apple menu and choose System Preferences.

  3. Click the Network icon.

  4. Select Built-in Ethernet from the Configure window.

  5. Click on the TCP/IP tab and select Configure Manually.

  6. Enter your IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Router Address (a.k.a Default Gateway) from the setup sheet provided in your install package.

  7. In the Domain Name Servers box, type our two DNS server numbers:

    and type "znet.com" for the search domain.

  8. Click Save and close your Network window.

  9. Your Macintosh is now online!

To connect multiple computers:

  1. You will need to connect an Ethernet hub or switch into the broadband connection device. Follow the instructions included with your hub or switch for connecting to a router. In some instances, a cross-over Ethernet cable may be required. However, some devices have built-in cross-over ports than can be used in lieu of cross-over cables.

  2. Plug one end of your ethernet cable into an available port on the hub or switch, and the other end into the Mac's ethernet port.

  3. Follow the instructions above, starting at step 2.
